Classes offered for the 2024-25 season
*Please remember that every child is unique, and our ages are approximate. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!!
Basic Movement - suitable for ages 3-4, an introduction to dance/ballet, focusing on rhythms and body posture as well as class structure and etiquette.
This is a NON-Parented Class. Students must be ready to leave mom and dad and come inside the class unassisted. Students must also be ready to use the washroom. We ask that parents remain on site during this class. If your child is unable to enter class without help, we do ask that you wait until they’re ready to enroll. We want all our little dancers to have a fun, positive experience.
Primary Acro - ages 5-7 - Acrodance is a combination of acrobatics and dance. Focus will be on fundamental skills. Strongly recommended to take ballet or jazz as it is mandatory moving forward from primary levels
Primary Ballet, Primary Jazz, Primary Tap, Primary Hip Hop - ages 5-6
The Above Primary Classes focus on being creative and having fun, while starting to build the fundamentals needed at higher levels!!
Level 1 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop - Ages 7-10
Level 2 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop - Ages 9-11
Level 3 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop - Ages 10-14
Level 4 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop - Ages 13 +
Acro 1/2 - Ages 7+
Acro 3/4 - Ages 10+
Lyrical, Pre-Pointe - Ages 12 +
Advanced Invitational Acro - PLEASE NOTE: Ballet and/or Jazz are mandatory pre-requisite classes to be taken at Step It Up for all Acro classes. You must be enrolled in a regular Acro class as well to be invited to join the Advanced Invitational Acro.
Musical Theatre - Ages 8+
Dancers are placed into each level according to age and previous experience/skill level. All Level 1 and up classes are considered for competition.
Adult classes are primarily recreational, and are not just for adults! Older dancers that want to try out a genre that is being offered as an adult class may join, or those that just want to do more dance. If the participants decide they are interested in performing at recital, that may be an option as well. Ask us about "Tapped Out", our adult tap troupe, and our adult Hip Hop classes - a huge success last year! A fun night out, no experience necessary! We'll meet you at the barre! EXAM CLASSES - This year, exams will be offered for Jazz, Tap with the possibility of Acro. Please register in Jackrabbit to attend these classes and be registered for the exam. Exam class eligibility for non Step It Up student -These would be on a case by case basis and the student has to have been studying the appropriate syllabus and have passed all necessary levels of examination. (ex Adapt tap and jazz, acrobatic arts acrodance etc).
COMMUNITY DEDICATION TEAMWORK
PLEASE NOTE: CLASS LENGTH AND TIME ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO ENROLLMENT. IF CLASSES HAVE SMALLER NUMBERS, THE CLASS LENGTH WILL SHORTEN, AND WILL THEN MOVE THE TIME OF THE FOLLOWING CLASSES.
Solo/Duet/Trio Choreography
Available through our Jackrabbit platform are options to request a solo, duet or trio to be choreographed for your dancer, which may be performed at competition and/or recital. There is an additional charge for which you receive additional class time to learn the choreography your instructor has created for you and prepare you to perform. If this is something you are interested in, you may submit your registration for consideration. The instructors review the submissions received and give recommendations to the board on the readiness of the student to perform the requested choreography.
Fees for special choreography allows for 4 hours of classes with the instructor choreographing the routine (chosen by the studio), and fees for entering the routine into competition (reduced rate for recital only routines). The fees per student for these classes are:
Solo - $265, Solo Recital Only - $200, Duet - $185, Duet Recital Only $125, Trio - $125, Trio Recital Only - $100

ALL BALLET CLASSES - $240
BALLET IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL DANCERS. IT IS A FUNDUMENTAL FOR STRENGTH, CONTROL, TIMING AND COORDINATION USED IN ALL OTHER AREAS OF DANCE. Ballet is a prerequisite class for students that wish to participate in competitions with a solo, duet or trio, with the exception of those only taking Hip Hop. Ballet has been offered at a reduced price to other classes at Step It Up Dance to encourage participation in this EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL CLASS
PLEASE NOTE: We are a dance studio that is operating as a co-operative, and as such, are required to charge a membership fee to maintain this status. The fee of $30 is added to each family account, and is due upon registration.

WHAT TO WEAR TO CLASS!!
Please click the button to see any specifics regarding the class(es) in which you are registered for the 2023-24 dance season. For basic guidelines we usually ask for the following:
Ballet - Bodysuit and tights, shorts over a bodysuit acceptable if form fitting. Female dancers need pink canvas or leather ballet shoes. Male dancers should wear close fitting shorts and a tank top or t-shirt, and black ballet shoes.
Jazz - As in ballet, bodysuit and tights, adding shorts over a bodysuit if form fitting. Female dancers need beige jazz shoes. Male dancers should wear close fitting shorts and a tank top or t-shirt, and black jazz shoes.
Tap - Also required to wear bodysuit and tights, shorts over a bodysuit acceptable if form fitting. Female dancers need black Mary Jane style tap shoes. Male dancers should wear close fitting shorts and a tank top or t-shirt, and black tap shoes. Older classes require a black tie up Oxford style tap shoe for better support.
Hip Hop - Sweatpants, shorts, t-shirt or tank top are acceptable attire. Please ensure clothing is still form fitting enough that the instructor can easily identify hips, knees, shoulders, etc. A sneaker with a non-marking sole is appropriate footwear.
Acro - A bodysuit and tights, shorts over a bodysuit. Tights should be footless, no shoes required!
Lyrical, Musical Theatre - same clothing and shoe requirements as jazz/acro (as requested by instructor)
For Exams - Standard dress for exams is a black tank style bodysuit, beige tights. Black dance shorts are optional.
Hair - all hair should be pulled back and away from the face, preferably in a ponytail or bun. For acro, hair must be in a braid or a bun. Level 3 and 4 ballet should wear a ballet bun for class.
Tights are mandatory for classes that will be at competition, and dancers at recital are expected to wear tights as well (with the exception of hip hop)
